My Story
Let Me Tell You More About Myself
The idea of Dyami began in 2019 when I discovered the Kabbalah and wondered how I could infuse spiritual concepts into fiction without sounding religious. I turned to my favorite childhood book series, The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis to create a world filled with fanciful creatures, magic, and adventure.
When the world stood still in 2020 with lockdowns and restrictions, I returned to my creative roots and imagined the perfect community where everyone was gifted, there was no monetary system, and illness was non-existent. I then imagined a second species and their lust for power and control. My story took shape when I placed Dyami in the center of their conflict, first as an observer and soon as a participant. My greatest desire was to write in a way that appealed to readers both young and old while conveying deeper truths.
More about me. When I was eight, I read The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. Filled with excitement, I went from closet to closet in my large Victorian home, hoping to find the secret entrance to Narnia. A skeleton key, an old Valentine’s day card, and a few nickels were the only treasures I found in that search. I never forgot how the book made me feel or how books could be so magical.
I soon collected discarded skeleton keys as a quirky hobby, as I loved their interesting shapes and wondered where they were used. My favorite was heavy, intricate, and magical because it could unlock any door in our house. I tried it on other homes around town when I visited and discovered it still worked. Such power! That master key showed me any door could be opened, either physically or metaphorically.
As a foreign exchange student to India, my world expanded with the rich cultures, spices, and religions. Both my undergraduate and graduate degrees drew me deeper into mythologies, various spiritual traditions, and understanding youth and young adults. I taught, led retreats, and helped hundreds of young people ask themselves difficult questions about life. Later, I later joined the corporate world of spreadsheets and project management for over twenty years. In all that time, I was still drawn to mythology, fantasy and spiritual teachings. On the side, I I practiced as a spiritual director.
Through a series of unforseen events, I left the corporate world in 2013. In 2017, I began meeting with a spiritual guide and mentor who helped me discover my spiritual gifts and the next chapter in my life. In 2019, I began studying the Kabbalah and immersed myself in mysticism. The seeds were planted then to share Truths within the Kabbalah, using fantasy and adventure.
